Naming a custodian before choosing a channel

Secure file-sharing process design fails when nobody owns the hand-off. Start with the person, then pick the path.

Teams often ask which tool is safest. The more useful first question is who is accountable when a payroll extract leaves finance and arrives at an external payroll bureau.

A named custodian decides which channel is allowed, confirms receipt, and knows when the working copy should be removed. Without that name, even a carefully chosen channel becomes another unmarked meadow of copies.

In Overberg engagements we write the custodian’s role into the process sheet before we debate products. The channel conversation then shrinks to options that person can actually supervise on a busy Friday.
